ADHD, autistic & dyslexic entrepreneur statistics.
Every number below is checked against one of three evidence tiers before it's used, and traced to a real, named source. Where a source doesn't give an exact number, neither do we.
Peer-reviewed, published research. Independently reviewed before publication.
Credible institutional research. Not yet peer-reviewed in a journal, but methodologically sound and traceable.
Institutional survey data. Real data with real methodology — always cited with its sample size shown.
Frequently asked questions
What does the research say about ADHD and entrepreneurship outcomes?
A 2026 meta-analysis (Tran et al., "ADHD Meta-Analysis," Tier 1, 47 studies, 298 effect sizes) found ADHD was linked to more entrepreneurial action but weaker outcomes after launch. Hyperactivity and impulsivity tracked with entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors; inattention tracked with worse post-launch outcomes.
Tran et al. (2026) · ADHD Meta-Analysis · 47 studies, 298 effect sizesHow many entrepreneurs show signs of dyslexia?
In Logan (2009), "Dyslexic Entrepreneurs" (Tier 1, n=102 entrepreneurs), 36 of 102 US entrepreneurs showed difficulty in four or more areas on an adult dyslexia checklist — 35%. A screening checklist, not a diagnosis; 7% of people invited responded.
Logan (2009) · Dyslexic Entrepreneurs · n=102 entrepreneursDo neurodivergent founders hide their traits at work?
Yes. 78% of neurodiverse founders surveyed say they have hidden their neurodiversity in business situations. Ives (2024), The Entrepreneurs Network + Barclays Eagle Labs, UK Gov-funded (DSIT), N=502.
Ives / TEN + Barclays (2024) · Neurodiverse Founders ReportIs autism an advantage in entrepreneurship?
Research here is still emerging — 2 studies tracked so far: Cope & Remington (2022) on autistic workplace strengths (Tier 1, survey-based), and Patton (2024), a conceptual paper on autism in an entrepreneurship context (Tier 2). We label this an emerging category rather than overstate what two studies can support. Cope & Remington sampled employed autistic adults, not founders, and Patton is a conceptual paper.
Cope & Remington (2022); Patton (2024)Does ADHD hyperfocus help in business?
Not directly. We found one study of hyperfocus in adults with ADHD (Hupfeld et al., 2019, a survey that does not sample founders) and none that tests hyperfocus in a business setting. The ADHD-and-entrepreneurship studies in the table below cover other questions, such as starting a venture (Lerner, Verheul & Thurik, 2019, N=9,869).
Hupfeld et al. (2019) · Hyperfocus in Adult ADHDIs there research on women with ADHD or autism who are founders?
Not directly. As of October 2026 we found no peer-reviewed study that samples female neurodivergent founders as its main population. We found three studies on women with ADHD or autism at work or in adult life, and none of them sample founders: Holthe & Langvik (2017, N=5), Hayward et al. (2019, N=89) and Bradley et al. (2025). Two 2026 studies examine gender within ADHD and entrepreneurship and find women with ADHD fare differently (Tran et al., 2026).

What the research doesn't cover yet
We'd rather name the gaps than imply completeness that isn't there.
- As of October 2026 we found no peer-reviewed study that samples female neurodivergent founders as its main population. Two 2026 studies examine gender within ADHD and entrepreneurship and find women with ADHD fare differently (Tran et al., 2026).
- Founder-specific autism subtype research: none found. General-population autism subtype and AuDHD research exists (see General Research).
- As of October 2026 we found very little longitudinal evidence on ND founders' outcomes. One 28-year study follows childhood ADHD to entrepreneurial entry, not to outcomes (Tran et al., 2026).
- As of October 2026 we found very few non-Western studies. We found one, in Japan (Wismans et al., 2021, n=255 business owners).
- As of October 2026 we found no modern replication of the 2009 dyslexia screening finding.
- AuDHD: no founder-specific research found.
