47

Studies in the largest ADHD and entrepreneurship meta-analysis

ADHD was linked to more entrepreneurial action but weaker outcomes after launch. Hyperactivity and impulsivity tracked with entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors; inattention tracked with worse post-launch outcomes.

of the US entrepreneurs in one 2009 survey screened positive for dyslexic traits

36 of 102 US entrepreneurs showed difficulty in four or more areas on an adult dyslexia checklist. A screening checklist, not a diagnosis; 7% of people invited responded.

RESEARCH & CITATIONS

Every claim traces to a real source. Here's the whole library.

28 sources, tiered by evidence strength: 14 on entrepreneurs and founders, 12 on neurodivergent adults and workers more broadly, and 2 general-population studies. Nothing here is rounded for effect — where a source doesn't give an exact number, neither do we.

How a claim earns its place here

Every number on this site is checked against one of three tiers before it's used. The tier is shown next to every study, so you can judge the strength of the evidence yourself.

T1

Peer-reviewed, published research. Independently reviewed before publication.

T2

Credible institutional research. Not yet peer-reviewed in a journal, but methodologically sound and traceable.

T3

Institutional survey data. Real data with real methodology — always cited with its sample size shown.

Solid but thin. Deeper research in progress — see the note below.

2009Logan — Dyslexic EntrepreneursT1102
2025Bongiorno et al. — The Neuroscience of Neurodiversity in EntrepreneurshipT2SLR

Logan (2009) screened 102 US entrepreneurs with an adult dyslexia checklist. The checklist flags possible dyslexia; it is not a diagnosis.

Bongiorno et al. (2025) is a systematic literature review covering ADHD, dyslexia, and bipolar disorder as the three most-studied conditions in entrepreneurship — dyslexia is one of three conditions covered, not the paper's dedicated focus. Listed here as supporting context alongside Logan (2009), not as dyslexia-specific evidence of equal directness.

Autism: work and entrepreneurship — 2 studies

64% of the neurodiverse founders surveyed agree that their neurodiversity meant setting up their own company was the only way they could earn a living (17% disagree). — Ives (2024), The Entrepreneurs Network + Barclays Eagle Labs, UK, n=502.

🔬 Research in progress

A deeper pass covering autism, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Tourette's, and an update to the dyslexia research above is underway — 24 sources reviewed, 6 candidate studies found. None of it appears above yet: every candidate stays labeled exactly that, "candidate," until it passes our own sign-off review. Two conditions (dyspraxia, dyscalculia) turned up no entrepreneurship-specific research that met our evidence bar — when that's the honest finding, we say so rather than stretch weaker sources to fill the gap.

General Research — 9 studies

Not all ND-founder-specific — several are general-population or cross-condition findings that inform this work without claiming to be about entrepreneurs directly. Labeled accordingly.

What the research doesn't cover yet

We'd rather name the gaps than imply completeness that isn't there.

  • As of October 2026 we found no peer-reviewed study that samples female neurodivergent founders as its main population. Two 2026 studies examine gender within ADHD and entrepreneurship and find women with ADHD fare differently (Tran et al., 2026).
  • Founder-specific autism subtype research: none found. General-population autism subtype and AuDHD research exists (see General Research).
  • As of October 2026 we found very little longitudinal evidence on ND founders' outcomes. One 28-year study follows childhood ADHD to entrepreneurial entry, not to outcomes (Tran et al., 2026).
  • As of October 2026 we found very few non-Western studies. We found one, in Japan (Wismans et al., 2021, n=255 business owners).
  • As of October 2026 we found no modern replication of the 2009 dyslexia screening finding.
  • AuDHD: no founder-specific research found.

⚠️ These gaps are the point, not a weakness to hide

Where the field hasn't studied something yet, that's real information too. These are also our own research priorities going forward.
